Jutana Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Holotype section: Near Jutana village, Eastern Salt Range (northern Indus Basin). Hypo: Saiyiduwali section, Khisor Range. Author: S.M.I. Shah, 1977.
Reference section: Being suggested by Nusrat K. Siddiqui; the lithology is similar to the type section, however in Khisor Range it is conformably overlain by the Khisor Formation, which is equivalent to the Baghanwala Formation of the Eastern Salt Range.
Lithology and Thickness
Dolomite. It is composed of cliff forming, thick-bedded to massive, brownish weathering, sandy dolomite and dolomitic sandstones with few shale intercalations. It is interbedded with light colored, fine grained calcareous sandstone in the lower part, having flaggy bands containing 'fucoid' markings, while upper part represents massive and brecciated dolomite.
Thickness: 50-163 m. The thickest exposure of the formation is in the type locality where it is 80 m thick; it thins westward and is 50 m thick in the suggested reference section, while in subsurface 163 m of the formation was drilled in Marvi-1 well.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformably underlain by Kussak Fm
Upper contact
